TT Thursday – weeks 33, 34, 35 & 36 : It’s a fat horse I ride

Yay I won $495.67 for losing weight

One of those Good News and Bad News posts.

Winnings from losing weight on HealthyWage, Cactus CatzGood news is I had 4 winning payouts happening just about every week in January so when the money reached $495.67, I transferred it to Paypal.  Paypal took a bite of $15.67 for their fees (2.9% plus .30 cents) and I transferred the remaining $481 into my bank account.  HealthyWage doesn’t charge to transfer to Paypal but will charge $7 if you ask for a check.  Next time I’ll probably ask for a check as it’s cheaper than Paypal.

Was that all profit? No, as you may recall  I bet anywhere from$60 to $100 per 6% HealthyWage challenges.  In this case $60 was bet 3 times and $100 once so the total bet was $280. I netted $201 which I still think is pretty awesome.  Think of it this way — that’s a 170% return in three months. Most investments don’t give you 70% interest quarterly.

(HealthyWage friend’s link if you want to check it out.  You’ll get an extra $40 bonus on the main wager if you succeed and so will I if I succeed on my main wager. Plus as friends we can cheer each other on.)

Ying-Yang.  Good things can lead to temptation.  I went to California to spend time with my friend Lori Kay, a Filipino-American sculptor who wanted a blog updated so that it can be viewed on the phone.  We both love thrift stores so we did a bit of that too.  I had a great time with her but….

Bad News is I fell off my new eating habits and got addicted to carbs again.  Oh and pizza, and sugar, and …. Everyday was a cheat day. Sighs.  I think dropping under 200 had me feeling so high, I totally dropped my guard.

When I left, I was at 199.1, remember?  When I got home, I stripped, closed my eyes and stepped on the scale.  It wasn’t as bad as I feared.  I had gone back up to 203.6.  This morning I was at 202 and change.  It could be worse but …

I’m in a weigh-out window.  February 20th is my final day for my next weighout and I need to be at 197.6 and now there is only 6 days left!!!

Panic!

Deep breath.

I want a pizza! Cheese and pepperoni and pineapple.

Deep breath.

Start over.  Reinstate the intermittent fasting window.

Deep breath.

Start with no salt.  Then no fat, no sugar, no carbs.

Pizza?

Deep breath.

Remembering how I found out how much I liked vegetables.  The sweetness of tomatoes and bright bell peppers in reds and oranges.  The crunch of carrots.  The fun of wakame seaweed expanding magically in water.

Okay?

Okay.  Besides since my weight is up a bit, I might as well weigh myself for the next 3-month challenge while I’m getting back on the bandwagon.

You ride a difficult horse and you’ll get thrown every now and again.  You’re only defeated if you don’t get back up on it.  Changing is difficult.  If it were easy, losing weight would not be a 70-billion-dollar industry. Changing how we eat, how we think about food, how we move, how active we are — it’s not easy.  A crisis, a vacation, being out of town and many other things can throw you.  It’s okay.  You get back on.  The time between throws gradually last longer until you stay on pretty easily.

Pizza?

Not today.  Getting back on the horse.

A tune keeps running through my head

I’m a cowgirl, it’s a fat horse I ride
I’ve wanted bread to survive
No more bread to survive
No more bread to survive

Raining today.  When it stops raining, I’ll go climb a mountain.  Mount Lemmon maybe.  Thinks about it.  Well, at least walk a couple hours up a mountain trail, taking photos.  Need to build some stamina before I take on a whole mountain. Time to start hiking.  I’ll get to the top eventually.  Horses and mountains.  Fitting for Arizona.  I live in the wild west after all.

How about you?  Is there something you want to do that’s not easy?  How’s it going?

Here’s the Bon Jovi song in case you were wondering what song I mangled

Bon Jovi Lyrics

“Wanted Dead Or Alive”

It’s all the same, only the names will change
Every day it seems we’re wasting away
Another place where the faces are so cold
I’d drive all night just to get back home

I’m a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I’m wanted dead or alive
Wanted dead or alive

Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it’s not for days
And the people I meet always go their separate ways
Sometimes you tell the day
By the bottle that you drink
And times when you’re alone all you do is think

[2x]
I’m a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I’m wanted dead or alive
Wanted dead or alive

And I walk these streets, a loaded six string on my back
I play for keeps, ’cause I might not make it back
I’ve been everywhere, and still I’m standing tall
I’ve seen a million faces and I’ve rocked them all

‘Cause I’m a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I’m wanted dead or alive
‘Cause I’m a cowboy, I got the night on my side
I’m wanted dead or alive
And I ride dead or alive
I still drive, dead or alive
Dead or alive [4x]

    1. Yeah, I’m sorry it’s lifelong too. Sighs. Sugar used to be my main food group. Ah well. I did notice that of the 5 pounds newly on, three fell off pretty quickly and I actually dipped below the 200 mark again yesterday. I won’t make tomorrow’s deadline for the November challenge but I should be back on track by the end of the week. Crosses my fingers. Went out and bought some veggies today.

  1. You enjoyed your visit and now it’s time to get back on the program. You’ll do it. I know you will. Way to go on earning all that money.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. ♥

    1. Thank you! It was fun to relax on food … plus when someone else is doing the cooking, it does seem a tad ungrateful to be too picky. I loved Lori’s creamy chicken and dumpling soup. Perfect for a cold winter’s day. I think I want to start making more soups now. Thank you for all your encouragement. The money came in time for me to pay my Arizona gas bill long distance so that was good. Plus I had enough left over to get a few new clothes. What I have no longer fits so yay!

Hope you’re having a great Feline Friday and the skies are bright and clear this weekend for you so you and your hubby can go out and have some fun.

    1. oh wow! exchange rates on top of the other fees must take quite a bite. Maybe one day money will be as international as blogging and we won’t have to worry about exchange rates any more. It’s cool that you did win cash giveaways even though paypal took a bit. Must be fun to win one of those.

  2. Change is difficult, so you should be really proud – congrats!! But ouch on the Paypal fees, I think they’re extortionate as they take 10% in the UK for money sent to your account (such as if you sell a top on eBay) too. I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead 🙂
    Caz xx

    1. Wow, 10% in the UK? That’s a lot higher. Ouch. I like the ease Paypal gives but wish it had more of a sliding scale for smaller amounts. They have the micropayment thing but the % actually goes up to 5% here although the 30 cents is dropped down to 5 cents for transactions less than $10. 6.5% for outside USA plus .05 GBP for UK. It doesn’t seem cheaper to me.

Hope you’re having a great weekend
