Saturday Satay : Odds and ends I’ve come across this week that were interesting

I’ve been having a problem. I see a great post and think I’ll do that later and then I can’t find it again. I’ve got so many bookmarks that it’s like stuffing something into a full storage shed. Things disappear once they go in. So I thought I’d put them here so I could add a quick note and find them again.  If a link to something good is saved somewhere else like Tummy Tuesday, obviously I won’t save it here.

I was going to call it Saturday Snaps but I do photographs so it makes me think of photographs. Being hungry, I thought of Satay, a dish I love with cubes of meat on a stick. So these are my little memory cubes. They are likely to be things I want to do sometime or that I might want for a future blog post.

Since I’m on a diet, it’s probably going to be a lot of food recipes to try out once my diet is finished.

5 Health Mistakes You’re Making Before 9 a.m.

interesting.  #3 caught my eye
“Mistake 3: Staying in the dark
It can be tempting to leave the blinds drawn and keep your cozy nighttime cocoon for as long as possible. But researchers at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine found in a 2014 study that early morning natural light exposure is associated with lower body fat. This is possibly due to a reset of our body’s circadian rhythm, which could boost metabolism. A quick walk outdoors is ideal, but if you’re pressed for time, at least open your shades to stream in the morning sun. ”

Art (not in Tucson)

Zada saw this exhibit.  Refugees in camps are often told to go with no time to pack or gather their belongings.  Weiwei picked up clothes that were left behind, laundered them and they are now traveling on exhibit.

But They Did Not Give Up

Let me know what do you think of this post.  I want to keep it fairly minimalist like Wordless Wednesdays so it’s about the links, not a bunch of words about the links.  Did you like it? Or do you feel like I should just set it as private since it’s a mashup of links I’d like to remember but you don’t find it that interesting?  Is it potentially useful for you too?

because of the theme, the bottom of photographs get cropped so I flipped it vertically and horizontally

From Amazon: I want to get the tea. The cheapest one has free shipping but takes a long time so coming over from Thailand? and do I just order the leaves and flowers or both? Maybe I should just get the one fulfilled by Amazon but shipping adds a bit. They have seeds too but I think Arizona would be too dry.

Premium Thai Herb Organic Dried Butterfly Pea Flowers Tea, (3.55 oz.). Fulfilled by Amazon so you get it fast.

Organic Dried Butterfly Pea Thai Herbals Blue Tea 100 Gram. It’ll take a month to ship but shipping is free. People said it was really good in Amazon reviews. People included photos of the drinks and food they made including purple sourdough bread in the reviews

100% Organic Dried Butterfly Pea Flowers from Thailand by ThaiTopTrade. Cheap and fulfilled by Amazon with free shipping. Reviews says it comes airmail from Thailand so not sure how long.People in the reviews talked of it having little or mild flavor so they use it to color various things and to add pretty color and antioxidants to food and drinks

TARA-GARDEN 50 seeds BLUE BUTTERFLY PEA SEEDS CLITORIA TERNATEA VINE FLOWER OGANIC NATIVE. This one has no reviews. There are other seeds that are cheaper and/or have reviews but this is the only one that explains how to get the seeds to grow. You have to clip them and do a couple things. That might explain why the folks who bought the $1.14 for 20 seeds only half got them to grow. Another issue is the flower comes in white and blue so in some reviews with other seeds people got the white ones probably due to people harvesting seeds from their garden. Other seed reviews people only got the blue ones. So I think reviews are important. The $1.14 one has free shipping. I am torn. If I go with this person, I bet I could email questions as they sound like they know how to explain growing the plant. I’ll probably go with the $1.14 first to see if they can even grow in Arizona dry climate with someone who definitely does not have a green thumb. Then if even one survives, go with this person for another batch.

  1. Chicken on a stick is good. Ive been doing em on the grill with a sweet and sour glaze with just a touch of sriracha to wake em up. A friend from Thailand calls em ‘bogus satay’ but still eats like five of em.

    1. That was an interesting art exhibit. I feel a little weird that he didn’t try to give the clothes back. For some of the refugees, they probably did not have many to begin with.

        1. Me too or that his exhibits gets people to donate new clothes and other necessary items to refugee camps

    1. Thank goodness they don’t wander the neighborhood. Up in North Tucson, there is one neighborhood that a mountain lion liked to go to. While I’d like to take a pic from a safe distance, I would not want to be up close and personal and definitely do not want it in my backyard.

          1. Looking back at my comments, I think I commented on the wrong post! What a senior moment! I would leave your links here and this post public–you never know who might be interested in something here.

            1. lol, i accidentally posted a draft couple that was online for like 5 minutes. You commented fast! I just had a bunch links on it as ideas for a future post and was taking one of the links for TT Thursday and then accidentally hit “Publish” instead of “Draft”. Doh!

    1. Glad you liked it. Several people mentioned in comments that they wanted to try your lasagna

  2. Saturday Satay, I like it. I can’t say I’ve ever had good satay though but I’ve had a lot of good lasagna yet never made it myself which I think is weird and thank you for that slow cooker link because especially in the summer that is how I roll. Unless I’m cooking corn which I’m starting to do for the next month or so. My diet is NOT going well but I’m guessing yours is coming along nicely. I have to add I love “memory cubes.”

    1. Oh wow, not what you mention it, “memory cubes” might be a better title. I have food on my mind so that’s why I did Satay. Oh and Saturday and Satay both start with Sat so maybe I’ll keep it.

What kinds of things do you make with corn?

  3. I like this, and I like the title, too. I have a giant sized manila envelope stuffed with art exhibits, book and restaurant reviews and recipes. I simply wrote “Let’s Go!” in big letters as the title. The New York Times has a, I think it is weekly, column entitled “36 Hours…” in some city. It reviews restaurants, museums and things to do in a particular city. I cut out many of them, because my husband travels for work, so I often pull out the articles to see what fun we can have when I visit him. I say continue with this idea, because one thing leads to another, and you are pretty good at research, so you may stumble across great ideas/facts to do haiku/senryu about.

    1. That’s pretty cool that you both can visit so many places and you can use your “Let’s Go!” envelopes. That would be great to do that here too because while there are a lot of places I would like to visit, for now I am Tucson so I can store a “to visit” bucket list here too. Thank you for the nice compliment on my research skills. It is rather fun. I think you recommended Word by Word to me. I finally got it from the library (hold list was soooo long) and it’s a surprisingly fun read.

    1. Oh cool. I’m glad you found it useful. Thanks for answering and I think I will keep it public.
