Tummy Tuesdays : Mardi Gras

Tummy Tuesdays : Mardi Gras

I had a chance to have some Mardi Gras cake on March 5th.  I enjoyed it — I did eat it carefully because I heard they put a baby toy in it but there wasn’t one.  It wasn’t as sweet as most cakes I’ve eaten, more like a cross between a cinnamon roll bread and a cake, but it was good.

DeeDee at Invisible-No-More describes making her first Mardi Gras King Cake with her friend Jen with the recipe.  You can see how it looks on the inside and she said the recipe is simple.  Looks like fun to make.

    1. It’s good. But eat it carefully. Some of them have a little figure in it. In New Orleans, it means you are selected to be the next King/Queen of the Mardi Gras.

  1. I’ve never had that kind of cake, but not to sweet would be my choice. Some cakes are too sweet for me.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

    1. You would like Japanese cake too I think but not the tea ceremony sweets. Their cakes aren’t as sweet as American cakes I thought. However they make up for it with their tea ceremony sweets — talk about a mouth exploding with sugar. It works with the bitter tea ceremony tea though — drink bitter, bite sweet and they sorta balance each other out. I guess that’s why I like coffee with my sweets.

  2. I did not make King Cake, but I did make Jambalaya. Mary, you would probably like jambalaya, as it can be tweeked to your taste. Use extra vegies and less rice, use turkey sausage for less fat, etc.

    1. I don’t know if I’ve ever had real Jambalaya but I buy it from Safeway grocery store regularly. Rice, sausage, and veggies. Very good. I like your idea though of maybe trying to make my own and subbing less fatty alternatives.
