Solar Eclipse
Ooh, Shiny! and an Ooh, Darn! and an Ooh, Yay!
Ten minutes to eclipse! What to do? No special glasses — library was out. I should have made a pinhole camera but oh well, too late, now.
They say don’t look directly. You can blind yourself. And sunglasses won’t help either.
Oh! I could use my camera. I could look at the eclipse on the back instead of through the viewer. I wouldn’t burn my eyes.
Nabbed a shot.
Disappointed, looking at the shot on the camera viewer, I saw only a shiny sunstar on blue sky — no eclipse.
I went inside to read a little more on the eclipse intending to go back out. Oh no! They say, do not use your DSLR unless you have a special filter because it can ruin the lens. Did I ruin the lens?
Snap a couple pics indoors of my computer screen (weird rainbow effect on the white screen — uh oh), my notebook (good) and a vase (good). Everything looks ok but better not take another pic of the eclipse. I can’t afford another camera.
Too bad it didn’t turn out but at least it was a cool looking starry sun pic.
Bring it up in Photoshop. OMG! I got the moon on it too! That is so awesome! It just wasn’t touching the sun yet.

Some Amazon stuff, a couple of eclipse books that looked interesting. I loved Total Eclipse of the Hearty by Bonnie Tyler (this totally dates me! lol).
disclaimer: I signed up as an Amazon associate. I should get a percentage back if anybody buys anything at Amazon through my links. (Amazon doesn’t decide if they accept you until they look at your site after a first purchase. No first purchase yet, so still in the acceptance process) Books are 4.5% but other things vary from 0-10%. I think Amazon requires the following text: “We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.”

nice pic
thank you, Carol!
Nice attempt tho 😀 , lucky you didn’t get your lens burnt maybe next time you’ll be better prepared.
Definitely, I figure if I wait a couple months all those eclipse glasses and — crossing fingers for this — the eclipse lenses will go on sale or resale at garage sales and ebay.
Although I am thinking of making a pinhole camera later as they look pretty cool anyways.
Did you get a good shot of the eclipse?
Very cool! I didn’t notice the mini reflection until you pointed it out.
Btw, anyone reading this, Anne took a picture of their diy box viewer along with her lovely picture of the eclipse.

I think the moon-looking spot is actually a reflection of the sun (with the eclipse starting). I get that frequently when shooting the moon, too. 🙂
Wow, I did not know that. That’s even cooler! So I did get the start of the eclipse even though I didn’t know it. oh, now I can see the little clip in the big sun on the lower right corner.
How did you take your picture “as seen through eclipse glasses?” that I saw @
