“Girls Unchained” Mural — downtown Tucson

Girls Unchained Mural painted by Lady Pink, Claw, Miss 17 and Dona, downtown Tucson

This crazy quilt mural caught my eye on the AccessTucson building downtown.  The collaborative mural was painted by four women (Lady Pink, Claw, Miss 17 and Doña) creating an intensely textured visual experience.  Since the building is for sale, I’m concerned that this is going to be another disappearing mural. It seems like most times when a building goes up for sale or has new owners, the mural gets painted over.  That would be sad because as you get closer to the mural you can see all kinds of interesting details.  Like if you look closely you can the names of famous women just to the left of the woman’s head.

  1. Fantabulous mural. One could spend a day getting lost in its beauty. My favorite bit is that lippy octopus mermaid lady in the last image. She speaks to the sea creature in me.

  2. I think I like the middle pic best…like the paisley and hibiscus. And I am sooo excited…I am in Atlanta for the week and have found a mural! It is at SunTrust Park (baseball), so tonight I will snap some pics!

    1. Yay! I can’t wait to see the mural. There’s a Monday Mural blog hop group (see the link at the bottom of my refs) but I don’t think anyone is in Atlanta. You could pop it in there too if you wanted.

That’s interesting that you like the middle one the best. I think it looks the most like a crazy quilt with the stitches and feeling of fabric. that was actually the first part of the wall that caught my eye because of the feel of textiles.

    1. Me too! (hope it survives the ownership changes). I was looking for one mural painted in 2016 for today’s post but it had been destroyed when the new owners took over. So sad.
