Feline Friday : San Xavier Mission Cat and Mouse

Feline Friday : San Xavier Mission Cat and Mouse

San Xavier Mission del Bac’s front is intricately decorated

Look inside the swirls at the top.  In the top left corner swirl is a mouse and in the right one is the cat watching the mouse, ready to pounce if he comes out.

The mouse:

The Cat:

They say if the cat catches the mouse, the world will end.  Cats are always getting a bad rap.  The truth is that the cat is doing his job, keeping the mice out of the church.  Have you seen the damage a growing colony of mice can do over a century or two?  He’s a good kitty, protecting the Mission.  Although it does look to me like erosion is getting to him.  The mouse maybe escaping soon and then we’ll see how folks will like that.

  1. Very nice – I visited San Xavier, but only had the cell phone – I have to go back with the good camera. I really like your photos and the details on those carvings – I was attracted by almost the same ones, too 🙂

    1. It’s a great place. There are so many little details there that I think I will be going back again too. It’s pretty amazing. A DSLR does make a big difference. I took a pic at a diner with my phone the other day since I did not have my camera — I ended up deleting almost all of them although I did use 2 on instagram.

    1. It’s great to put on Caturday. It’s the same Feline Friday blog hop on Comedy Plus’s site. I see you on that one sometimes

  2. I probably would not have noticed the cat and mouse. Don’t think the world is ending today! I think I said before that I do enjoy the old Spanish Missions. They seem so peaceful. thanks for sharing Mary.

    1. I probably wouldn’t have either except that I looked up info on the place before I went. I love legends and myths, especially if they involve a cat! I enjoy old Missions too.

  3. Bat guano can be a problem, too, I learned years ago when my boss at the time tried resolving an issue in their older church. You’ve reminded me that I never got the linky tool after our kind host linked me. Oops. And thank you for the kind word on my blog. Jezzy and Tilly are always relaxed except Jezebel freaks when anyone visits. ~sigh~ Don’t know why she’s become so neurotic in old age, but we try to maintain a quiet house. Be well!

    1. I didn’t think about bat guano being a problem too. I should have because “bats in the belfry” is a common phrase.

My cats are bit like yours. Pinkie is shy and hides from visitors while Midnight loves to check people out if they stay for more than ten minutes.

    1. Hmmm, now I know why my cats love watching a good old fashioned Western.

Hope you’re having a great day!
