Monday Meow : My cats Pinkie and Midnight say Happy New 2020!

A bit belated but Pinkie and Midnight say Happy New Years! Hope you have a great 2020!

I love this pic of Pinkie and Midnight.  For some reason it reminds me of Grant Wood’s American Gothic painting — the one with the farmer and his wife.  I have no idea why. Maybe because Pinkie and Midnight have that same expression?

(This pic is actually from last year when I stayed in a trailer.  It’s one of the few pics I have of Pinkie and Midnight together.  At home, they still refuse to stay in the same room but I am hoping this year, they will become boon companions)

Just wondering.  Who else besides me when they see the 2020 have the thought pop into their head — I wish I had 20-20 vision?

My life at the moment

Sorry for being offline for so long.  As you know, I got a warehouse job because I had this idea A) I would be getting regular exercise as part of my job and B) I would lose more weight due to the exercise.  I have decided I am a nut!  After three months, my legs still hurt after walking for 10-12 hours (OT days are 12 hours).  I am working 4 days, 10 hours.  This week I am changing my shift to a 3 days, 12 hours one so I can have 4 days off.  During December, with the OT, I would just come home and roll into bed.   But my bills are caught up so I’m happy although I don’t have a car yet. I did lose 10 pounds initially but am now spending a lot more money on food — the bad stuff — so have gained it back. I’m going to be 60 this year — maybe I should look for a desk job.  But the 3 days — 12 hours work week is very alluring.  I am hoping this will work.

I am hoping with the new hours starting this week, I can blog regularly again.  I miss blogging and the community of you all (although coming back and finding my feedback was slammed with 460 free online dating spams was something I don’t miss).  Also once I get a car again, with the 4 days off, I’m hoping to do some weekend travel.  And yes, I will post my pics from the cruise — probably on Sunday.

I am thinking of making Sunday-Funday posts.  I may just do cat pics for the most part as I get back into the habit of blogging but I had promised to get the Sabi Saturday restarted too so that’s also on my agenda starting this week.  And since I am eating like crazy — back on soda and chocolates! — I think I better go back to doing the TTThursday posts on health.  I think I want to restart the heroes thing with finding cool women and seniors who have walked/ran/biked/exercised or done some other good healthy thing. And maybe healthy food on some TTThursdays instead of Tummy Tuesdays to get back into cooking healthy (instead of eating frozen foods all the time).  Maybe I should just keep this a Pinkie-Midnight blog — it would be easier and I could be more consistent about posting.  So I am reassessing what to do here. A friend said I should be more focused — but that just makes me split off into more blogs, lol.  I think part of the problem is I like the whole process of starting a new blog — the whole fresh start feeling.

I need to create more time and do less walking so I can blog. So given I don’t have oodles of time to take the bus any more, I’ve started using Amazon for deliveries for things like cat litter.  OMG!  Why didn’t I do that sooner?  So much easier than carting the cat litter home on the bus especially with the closest one being almost a half mile.  Plus Amazon has a subscription thing so you can set regular deliveries and they give you a little discount.  So far I’ve set up the Cheeze Craze treats for once a month because Midnight and Pinkie love it and our grocery store doesn’t carry that flavor; a set of 4 bags of dry cat food that they like for once every three months.  A friend of mine does her favorite pair of work shoes for once a year so you are free to set up whatever schedule works for you. The next time I order cat litter, I’ll set that up too. Honestly if I bought those things at the store, it would be cheaper because I usually buy what’s on sale plus Amazon charges $12.99 for Prime which gives me free delivery.  However, for me, the convenience of coming home and finding it on my doorstep, is making life so much easier.  And lately Amazon prime is giving $1 if you don’t do the next day delivery to use for kindle books, online movies, and other “virtual” products. And at work I won an Amazon Firestick on a random drawing for staying the whole overtime day.  So now I can watch the shows on TV.

  1. Welcome back! And Happy New Year! Here’s to praying that your 2020 brings with it wonderful new memories and lots of pleasant news!

Go easy on yourself friend. Try not to overdo it – you know how stress affects everything about our bodies, especially our health. I found that rediscovering my perfect balance took a little time.

No matter which change it was – even good – there was still an adjustment period to figure out the ‘new norm.’ You’ll get there. Once you do, everything else will fall into place. I craved junk food terribly when I was going through the transition as well. It’s comfort when you’re in a time of uncertainty, in my humble opinion. You’ll know exactly what to do as time continues. Be patient with yourself. You’ve got this ♥

I chuckled reading about your choice to switch to Amazon deliveries for kitty stuff. Isn’t it great having it pop right to your doorstep? We use chewy.com (I affiliate with them at Cat Care Solutions because they’re AMAZING). Shipping over a $50 order is free. 1-2 day shipping. Customer service is top notch. We use Amazon for mostly everything else.

Love to you and the kiddos. I hope this note finds you feeling well!

    1. I hadn’t realized it was craving for comfort (food) while things were in flux. and it’s true I’m reaching for all my favorites. Mostly I thought I was back to my old habits because it’s easy — carbs, sugar and frozen. I need to get back into cooking. Losing weight, I found out even with my basic cooking skills, food tasted better if I cooked it rather than from frozen. So tht’s my plan for next week to restart cooking. My plan this week was restarting blogging. Just getting back to “normal” helps a lot.

I haven’t tried Chewies but may look into it. I generally don’t buy $50 worth of stuff at a time. More like $10-$20. It is pretty awesome to come home or wake up and find things already delivered without having to tote it on the bus. I don’t know what took me so long to figure it out.

I’m doing great. Pinkie and Midnight waves hello to your cats. HOpe you are having a great 2020.

  2. I am glad to hear things are working out for you. the more you work though, the hungrier you get. That’s what happens to me, and the urge then is to consume high calorie count food! I’m not driving and order all my cat food in bulk and litter, but not from Amazon. Not likely a porch pirate will be running off with my boxes. I have to slide them thru the front door to get them inside!

    1. Yes, that is the problem I am having — working has brought my appetite to the fore with a craving for calories — fat and sugar. And the problem I’m finding is if you indulge a little, it increases the craving. I bought some mandarin oranges instead of chocolate this grocery trip so that works — mostly because all the chocolate in the house is gone.

So far I’ve been lucky and no one has stolen my Amazon boxes. Usually they arrive on the day I’m home because that’s the way I order but not always. I do Prime so I’ve been getting next-day delivery so that makes it easy to know the dates (well, not any more, I’ve been taking the delayed delivery for the $1 for virtual movies). Luckily my porch is set back behind my mom’s bushes. Some kind of bush with pink flowers so I think it’s a little hard for people to see. If stealing becomes a problem, I may setup a lockbox like some people do as I have a big enough porch. Just out of curiousity, do you buy in bulk from a local store or online?

Have you seen this? It’s a hilarious video of a man getting even with thieves stealing his Amazon boxes

      .

      1. We have lots of local theft photos b ut I did see the glitter bomb. I do order pet supplies in bulk from Chewey dot com. I have prime Amazon and order things all the time as I cannot drive anymore and it is easier to shop that way. Keeps me out of all the rain here and I cannot carry much .Never robbed. Usually home and obscure porch. Love Amazon prime streaming service. Oh the only way to avoid bad food is don’t bring it home and don’t go to restaurants. That is hard but not as hard as losing weight. I just struggle to the stay where my weight is mode. People think I can eat anything as I am slim. They don’t know it is a fight from meal to meal to stay this way. That is why I am a glamour model!?

        1. I’ve never ordered from Chewey but I’ll take a look at it some time. I am starting to order more but I still carry groceries home at least half a mile but then we don’t have rain as often as you do. I don’t go out in the rain — I’m like a cat, lol, when it comes to rain. Hopefully yours and mine luck will continue and we will never be robbed. Yeah, I think right now part of the problem with working is having more money — so I am still wanting to get the food I couldn’t “treat” myself to. and the bigger problem is I’ve stopped cooking which I need to get back into. The irony is I found out even with my cooking skills, my cooking is better than frozen but I still reach for those convenience foods. I’ve rejoined Healthywage to get me back on track so next week going to look at some cookbooks again (yeah, I was going to do it this week but I have some errands to run so plan to eat out on the bus route). My friend swears by keto. It doesn’t make sense to me with the high fat portion but I want to try it to see if it really works. I saw a recipe book that had some easy recipes. Part of waht intrigues me with keto is the different kinds of flour they use — almond flour and such. I love carbs so eating their “breads” with the alternative flours might help with cutting back on carbs but not feeling like I’m depriving myself. We’ll see. I still don’t trust the high fat part and may go traditional–no carbs, no sugar, no fat–like I did before.

            1. That sounds like a good idea. It’s important to do what works for us. I’ve gone back on the challenge — when I do that, I start using my brains and thinking about what I am eating/doing whereas most of the time I just tend to glide along. Time to get back on the saddle.

    1. Thank you! Midnight and Pinkie purr nice to see you too. Yeah, having the bills caught up is great. And having medical coverage again after being without for a decade is a bit of a relief. I’m not one to go to the doctor but it’s nice to know I can if something happens. For me, now that things are caught up, it’s the benefits that’ll keep me there for the next 5 years or so. When Medicare kicks in, I may make a different choice. Who knows? It is good to balance a physical activity against the computer stuff I like to do.

  3. Exercise is good, but at almost 60 that’s hard work. Good for you. I’m impressed.

It’s so good to see you again. I’ve missed you.

Have a fabulous day and week. Big hug. ♥

    1. Yeah, in my 20s when I went to work for the post office (before I quit to teach English in Japan for a couple years), I got used to being on my feet within a month or so. I was expecting the same thing to happen. I knew the first week would be killer … and then it was the first month, and the second month, and here I am in the third month. My stamina has improved but my body still whines after a 10hour shift. I expected it to be a breeze by now. I think unconsciously I still expect to have the same recovery time as I did when I was younger but it’s taking 3x as long these days. I may try to do a lateral move into HR if an opening comes up. They have a sit-down job. Still I think it’s good for me to have the physical exertion to balance out my time on the computer at home (once I get back on track which crossing fingers this is the start. I may have to balance short and long posts). I don’t know. Some days I think I’m just crazy. It’s a young person’s job, that’s for sure.

Thank you for popping by. I really appreciate it. I love how your blog Comedy Plus makes me smile. Your Tuesday post today made me laugh.

Hope you have a great week and a sunny weekend and wonderful year!

  4. Lovely to see you here again! Firstly, hurrah on getting caught up on the bills, all that endless work paid off, literally! Don’t stress too much on the weight, you’re getting exercise and it sounds like your legs probably need a rest. I hope 2020 is a good one for you with a car, a better balance for you with the new hours, some weekend travel, more blogging if you want to as I’m looking forward to your posts (on this blog or a new one!)
Happy new your lovely (and Happy Mew Year to you too, Pinkie & Midnight) ?

    Caz xx

    1. Thank you! I am looking forward to 202. As Sue said in https://nansfarm.net/2020/01/01/new-beginnings/, I think it’ll be a magical beginning. And your using “balance” is a great choice. I think I’m going to make that one of the words for this upcoming year. Work will provide medical insurance which I need to have as I get older — haven’t had it for at least a decade now. But I was so happy just blogging so now I need to balance the creative with the practical.

    1. Thank you, Leah. Midnight and Pinkie join me in purring Happy New Years to you and Franklin too! Hope you have a great year!
