Senae Thai Bistro

Since I’m losing weight (30 pounds so far!), I look for healthier choices on restaurant menus. I found Senae Thai Bistro when I was strolling downtown photographing murals.  They had my favorite Thai food! Green papaya salad which came with add-ons if you wanted including grilled salmon. Yum! Loved it. The concept of add-ons to salad is awesome. No carbs and lo-cal too. Win win!

As you can see I got a nice chunk of succulent salmon.  The yummy green papaya salad was especially pretty with contrasting cherry tomatoes and crushed long beans.  And yes, there is peanuts so if you are allergic, this is not the dish for you.  Everything was served on a bed of spring greens tossed in a tasty lime garlic dressing.  It was a refreshing yet filling dinner, perfect for a blazing Tucson summer evening.

Plus the next morning when I weighed myself, I’d lost another pound so it’s on my list of delicious dinners I can eat anytime.  One of the problems in losing weight is you feel like you are losing out because a lot of good-tasting food is high in fat, sugar, salt and carbs.  Seriously those are like the four main food groups. So one of the challenges in learning to eat healthy and eat at restaurants is to find delicious foods that isn’t drenched in butter, crispy fried, or saddled with pasta or breads.  When you find a dish that makes you feel like an indulgent gourmand eating it but it’s healthy for you, it’s like gold, to be treasured.

Service was great which I appreciated especially since I’d taken a bus and been tramping around in the heat taking photos.  There were all these nicely dressed people dropping by after work and here I was in very casual wear, my usual. I had arrived in time for happy hour when beer, glasses of wine and well cocktails were $2 off.  They also had some happy hour appetizers for $6 but I didn’t partake.  I was seated quickly near a window as I requested and the waiter checked on me several times to be sure everything was good.  He was dressed better than me, lol.  They were great.

I want to go back and try out their lunch specials because they feature a lot of different kind of curries.

The salad Som Thum (green papaya) was $11.50 with several possible add-ons like the salmon for $7.

    1. Me too! I love salmon, papaya salad and mango. ummm, problem is I love a lot of foods — good thing those are great for eating healthy.

    1. It’s a healthy dish that’s for sure and delish! a win-win. Thanks for popping by and it was fun seeing bits of your trip on instagram

  1. Hello Tumm Tuesdays! I love Green Papaya salad, if its on the menu I’m going to order it every time. Congratulations on losing 30 pounds! Good service is always important especially when I’m hungry and tired. Their Happy Hour menu looks great 🙂

    1. Thanks a lot for visiting, Mary. We have the same first name! yeah, I love Green Papaya salad too. Thank you for the congrats — I have 35 pounds to go to meet the December deadline for my weight challenge (TT Thursdays) but I’m happy I’m nearly halfway there. I’ll check you out on instagram too.

  2. That sounds and looks great, I got a board to cook salmon on a while back but no matter what I did it didn’t taste great. I packed on the pounds over the last few weeks being sick and am stuck for what to eat so this is a good place to start.

    1. Oh no, I’m sorry you’ve been sick. Most important is getting healthy. Most days I’ve just been grazing except for dinner, like cherry tomatoes and other veggies. It’s a good season for veggies as some of them taste quite sweet right now. I hope you’re all better now.

  3. Lovely meal choice for someone watching their calories. I had something similar at Benicia Yacht Club on Saturday night. It was delicious.

I’m so proud of your weight loss.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

    1. What did you have? Thank you for the support always. I really appreciate it. Do you take pictures when you’re yachting or relax, enjoying the sun and water with your hubbie and friends?

    1. Thank you, Chris. Salmon is great, isn’t it? And the meal was yummy. You all most get some great fish too in Scotland with so much ocean closeby

    1. Yeah, me too. Salmon is great (plus it helps your hair to grow — I had nickel sized bald spots on my head because I didn’t cook fish and rarely ate out. Turns out I needed omega 3. So I started eating salmon every couple of weeks and it cleared it right up — no more bald spots! yay! )
